Family Law
Family law issues involving children are handled in Family Court. I have practiced in Family Court for over 20 years. For much of that time, I have served as “attorney for the child” (formerly called a “law guardian”) in virtually every type of family law issue in Family Court. I have handled hundreds of cases and dozens of trials.

Protecting the best interests of children in family law cases
Children should never be just the subjects of a court proceeding. Family Court is designed to protect the children and their best interests. The attorney for the child is an active advocate for the child client. I have represented children in both Saratoga County and Warren County in every kind of case that comes before the Family Court.
The Family Court hears cases involving:
- Child abuse and neglect
- Custody and visitation
- Family offenses (domestic violence and orders of protection)
- Child support
- Paternity
- Termination of parental rights
- Person in Need of Supervision (PINS): Children who may need more help than the parents or school can give can be subject of a P.I.N.S. petition
- Juvenile Delinquency (JD): Youths charged with actions which would be considered crimes if they were older are subject to J.D. proceedings.
Family Court does NOT deal with divorce actions. Those are matters for the Supreme Court. The focus in Family Court is the children. Keeping matrimonial actions in a separate court helps maintain this focus.
